Academic events of February 2016, Department of English, MKBU





Hello readers,

           In this blog I have shared some memories of academic as well as nonacademic events of Department of English which we have celebrated in February, 2017.





1) Guest lecturers - Prof. Ravi Zala on 9th and 10th February

            On 9th and 10th February, Prof. Ravi Zala (Saurashtra University, Rajkot) has visited Department of English and has discussed J. M. Coetzee’s “Waiting for The Barbarians” with semester 4 students as a part of their paper on African literature.

2) Guest lecturers - Prof. Atanu Bhattacharya on 11th and 12th February

     On 11th and 12th February, Prof. Atanu Bhattacharya visited Department of English and discussed about teaching language through literature with Semester 4 students as a part of their paper English Language Teaching – 2.

3) NET-SET Workshop by Dr.Kalyani Vallath – 13th to 15th February

      From 13th February to 15th February we had a workshop in Department of English on NET/SET exams. The resourse person was Dr. Kalyani Vallath from Trivendrum Kerala.

4) Guest lecturers – Prof. Sanjay Mukherjee – 17th and 18th February

        On 17th and 18th February Prof. Sanjay Mukherjee has visited Department of English and discussed Cultural Studies with semester 2 students as a part of their paper on Cultural studies.

5) Guest lecturers – Dr. Heenaba Zala – 17th to 20th February

From 17th to 20th February Dr. Heenaba Zala (Parul University, Baroda) has visited Department of English and discussed two novels “Things Fall Apart” and “A Grain of Wheat” with semester 4 students as part of their paper on African Literature.

6) Extension Activity at Diu and Una – 23rd to 25th February

From 23rd to 25th February, students have actively participated in out rich programme of Department of English at Diu and Una.

           In this blog I have shared some memories of academic as well as nonacademic events of Department of English which we have celebrated in January, 2017.



          1)  New Year theme in daily schedule – 2nd January, 2017
   
           On 2nd January, 2017 we had a thematic daily schedule in Department of English where students have shares their resolutions and thoughts regarding New Year.

     2)  One day training program - Women rights - 6th January 2017

         This One day training program was organized by 'National Human Rights Commission of Delhi' with the collaboration of 'Women Development cell' of M. K. Bhavnagar University.

#      Net Set Classes in Department of English

1.          Kalyani Vellath - 9th January, 2017

        Ms. Kalyani Vallath from Trivendrum has talked about the preparation of UGC - NET exam live via Google hangouts with the students of Department of English



2.          Chetan Trivedi - 10 january, 2017
     
   On 10th January we had a session on NET/SET exams by Dr. Chetan Trivedi. He explained the structure and pattern of the exam. Most importantly he told "How to read". 



3.          Milan Parmar -11 January, 2017


            Alumnus Milan Parmar has provided guidance to the students of Department of English on NET/SET and GSET exams. Milansir has given a trajectory to plan for exams and suggested to focus on deep reading with passion. Milansir has recently cracked GSET exam, his hard work is an inspiration for all students.

4.        Poojaba Jadeja - 12 January, 2017
       
    Poojaba Jadeja has provided a guidanceon NET/SET preparation and discussed Post colonial literature.







2) Kite flying day celebration – 12th January, 2017

         12th January we have celebrated Kite flying day at Department of English – M. K. Bhavnagar University.




     3) Inauguration of Startup India cell – 17th January, 2017

             

         On 17th January there was a Youth Conclave Program, inauguration of Start-up India Cell and Unveiling of Statues of  Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel & Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji at Amphitheater.

    4) Celebration of 26th January, 2017- M. K. Bhavnagar University

      On 26th January, 2017 we have celebrated Republic day by cleaning the Garden of Department of English.

5)          Meeting with AAA team – 30th January, 2017

         On 30th January, 2017 students of all Departments have attended a meeting with AAA team. There was a good interaction between students and team members. The cultural committee of University has also organized a cultural event for them.

    1)  Ambedkar Chair – 2th December
   
           On 2nd December Maharaja Krushnakumarsihji Bhavnagar University has organized a session on Youth and Baba Saheb Ambedkar. It was organized by Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar chair and Department of History.

     2)  A talk with ‘Rangsadhak Vidhwano’ of drama – 15 December

        Gujarati Department and Cultural committee of M K Bhavnagar University has organized a talk with “Rangsadhak Vidhwano” of Guajarati drama.

     3)  Excel expression – 17th, 18th and 19th December
    
    Many students from Department of English have participated in the Excel expression at Shishuvihar. Budhiditya Das and Surbhi Gausvami have secured 2nd rank in debate competition.

    4)  Inter-college Elocution Competition by Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samiti, Bhavnagar- 22nd December
       
       Budhiditya Das has secured second position in Inter-college Elocution Competition 2016 organised by Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samiti, Bhavnagar. The topic for the elocution competition was “Women is a true architect of the society”.



     5)  Christmas celebration – 23rd December
    
     There was a celebration of Christmas by celebration committee. Jayati Thakar and committee members have distributed pen and chocolates to students.

     6)  DIC: PD Workshop - Website and MobileApp creation for academic purpose – 30th December

    Dr. Dilip Barad and committee have organized a workshop on website and mobile app creation for academic purpose. Prof. Mahesh Jivani, Head of Electronic Department, Saurashtra University has demonstrated the process of website and mobile app creation.
